Seismic Monitoring

GeoSphere Austria offers support in seismic monitoring of structures or infrastructure and offers various services during the planning phase, during the construction of the monitoring network and during ongoing operation. In this way, actual ground movements can be documented, compliance with design values can be guaranteed and interventions can be carried out quickly after a seismic event.

Seismic Monitoring of Structures and Infrastructure

  • Of interest to: e.g. power and infrastructure operators, mining companies, SEVESO-certified companies.
  • Price: on request.

GeoSphere Austria provides support in the seismic monitoring of structures. We operate an efficient permanent measurement network, but can also support you with on-site measurements if required.

Seismic monitoring is required to verify the ground movements that actually occurred during an earthquake, to document the dynamic behaviour of the object and its changes over time following an earthquake and to check the rated values and assumptions made during planning. This is the only way to ensure appropriate intervention after extraordinary seismic events. Seismic vibrations can also occur in industrial activities such as deep geothermal energy or mining. Their monitoring may be ordered or required by the authorities.

We support you during such projects and offer the following services in the planning phase, during the installation of the measuring network and during ongoing operation:

  • Site analysis with on-site measurements regarding ground disturbance.
  • Concept for seismic monitoring (suitable geometry of the monitoring network, site and expansion recommendations, sensors).
  • Support and seismological consulting (tenders and commissioning of monitoring, support for official procedures).
  • Construction of measuring stations (construction, installation, settings, data transmission, etc.).
  • Technical support and remote maintenance of sensors (operational safety).
  • Seismic monitoring (incl. processing and archiving of data).
  • Alerting the client in case of an earthquake (possible 24/7 due to on-call service of the earthquake service).
  • E-mail notifications when threshold values are exceeded or special events occur.
  • Weekly, monthly or annual reports (summary of events with explanations by our seismologists, revision recommendations for the monitoring network).
