Report Weather Impacts

Your report of ground truth information helps to capture the impacts of weather and severe weather events in real time and supports us in verifying weather forecasts and warnings at the respective location.

Report weather impacts, help to warn, avoid danger

Numerous GeoSphere Austria automatic weather stations measure temperature, air pressure, wind direction and strength, and other atmospheric parameters with high accuracy. The actual impacts of weather on the ground, however, cannot be detected by the automatic stations alone. To estimate storm damage, avalanches, mudflows, rockfalls or the effect of hailstones or tornadoes, human observations are still necessary.

Your weather impact report

Therefore, we invite you to submit a report about the current weather impacts.

You can use the website to report your weather observations with your mobile device, regardless of time and place. To do this, activate internet and localisation, type wettermelden.at in your browser and select the appropriate reporting parameter. A photo helps to better describe the weather impacts. This way, you can record your weather report in about 30 seconds.

What happens with your weather impact report?

The reports on the current weather and its impacts on the ground reach the meteorologists at GeoSphere Austria in real time. In this way, your observations help to improve weather warnings and thus better avoid the immediate, dangerous consequences of extreme weather.

The observations also form the basis for better climatological research into extreme weather events and their damage. With these data, the frequency of extreme weather events and the vulnerability of our society to weather-related damage can be assessed more precisely.
