GeoBOOST - Boosting geothermal heat pumps to mainstream cost-effective and efficient renewable heating and cooling in buildings
GeoBOOST seeks to increase the deployment of geothermal heat pumps systems Austria, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden, as well as provide products and tools relevant for consumers, suppliers and planners in all markets across the EU.
The GeoBOOST project, supported by the EU LIFE programme, aims to accelerate the deployment of geothermal heat pumps and open-loop systems as effective renewable heating and cooling solutions across Europe. By addressing critical barriers such as policy inefficiencies, lack of standardization, and limited market awareness, the project seeks to integrate geothermal systems into mainstream energy solutions in buildings. GeoBOOST focuses on improving regulatory frameworks, enhancing market conditions, and providing tools that enable stakeholders to adopt geothermal solutions more readily.
GeoBOOST aims to creating practical deliverables that facilitate the adoption of shallow geothermal energy. These include developing user-friendly tools for project feasibility assessments, establishing standardization protocols for the documentation of existing installation, and creating templates for streamlined permitting processes. The project also focuses on improving awareness through targeted communication campaigns and training materials designed for consumers, suppliers, and planners. By showcasing best practice examples of guidelines and scalable business models, GeoBOOST ensures that its findings and methodologies can be adapted to various regional contexts across Europe.
- Address market barriers by improving regulatory frameworks, recommending streamlined permitting processes, and enhancing data collection and monitoring standards of existing geothermal heat pumps.
- Develop tools for project feasibility assessments and guidelines for integrating geothermal systems into urban planning.
- Present scalable business models and innovative financial strategies to attract investors.
- Compile and share "geothermal stories" of successful implementations.
- Establish educational resources and training materials to upskill the workforce and foster a deeper understanding of geothermal heat pumps across Europe.
