New publication: Explanatory notes on geological map sheet NL 33-04-06 Radenthein-Ost

The explanatory notes for Radenthein-East on the geological map sheets UTM-Radenthein-North-East and UTM-Radenthein-South-East around the Turracher Höhe on the border between Styria and Carinthia have recently been published. These are the first to combine two map sheets in the new 1:25,000 scale.

The richly illustrated explanations contain 122 pages of geologically relevant information on the two map sheets published in 2019, Radenthein – Southeast and Radenthein – Northeast. The area covered, centred on the Turracher Höhe pass (1,795 m) and the Eisenhut mountain (2,441 m), lies in Styria in the north and Carinthia in the south.

The topics covered range from a description of the history of exploration and a characterisation of the tectonic units attributable to the Upper Eastern Alps and the geological history to a detailed explanation of the map legend. Mineral resources and hydrogeology are also discussed. An extensive bibliography documents the current state of research.

The two map sheets and the accompanying explanatory notes are available for download in digital format and for purchase in analogue format.
